Owning and living in an RV certainly has its advantages and disadvantages. Since we live in Northern Michigan and Jeff is still working full time at the National Weather Service office here, we decided not to try to winter in our fifth wheel. The main reason is because the only campground open in the winter shuts off the water at some point to avoid freezing lines. Which makes sense of course. But, that would mean we would have to use the campground bath house, kitchen sink, and laundry. Neither of us want to go traipsing through the snow at 4 in the morning to use the bathroom. So, we rented a cabin/cottage on a small lake, near the weather office, which is cozy, cute, and small. The storage space in the kitchen and bathroom is non-existent, but understandable since it is a short-term rental. We’ve learned to improvise and utilize spaces we normally might not think of, like the top of the fridge for food. Thankfully, we have the clear bins we used in the fifth wheel to help contain can goods and boxed foods.
Another disadvantage of owning an RV is the use of certain cleaning products. We’ve learned that it is very important not to put certain chemicals down the drains and therefore into the tanks as they will cause nasty things to happen which in turn can cause nasty odors and other problems.
As you may or may not know, I (Mary) am an Avon Representative. And as you may or may not know, Avon has some incredible cleaning and household products which I have found to be ideal for use in the RV. You can see them all in the gallery below.
- The Fabric Refresher is awesome for freshening up your clothing items, as well as de-wrinkling them. Saves on having to iron or steam them, or run them through the dry cycle again. Save time and energy, just spray on and watch the wrinkles disappear. Also works great to refresh seasonal clothing items after being stored.
- The Odor Eliminator is for the fridge and uses plant based products to help eliminate odors that can build up from spillage or forgotten foods. Just set it and forget it. Replace after gel dissipates.
- The Heavy Duty Cleaning Wipes are my favorite! They clean every surface safely, and you’re not putting any chemicals down the drains and into your tanks. I use them on the stove, in and on the fridge, and they even clean the soap scum off the shower doors without streaking. I wipe the shower doors with the wipes, then follow with a paper towel.
- Eraser sponge 3 pack is awesome for cleaning all surfaces as well, without putting harsh chemicals in the drains and tanks. Dual-sided. Non-scratch scrubber scours stains, dirt and grime fast and safely, even non-stick surfaces. S-shape design.
